The Induction of Fr Boniface
at St Catherine's on 4 February 2022

Induction of Fr Boniface as our Parish Priest

On the evening of Friday 4th February 2022, the parishes of St Catherine’s Littlehampton and St Joseph’s Rustington celebrated the Induction of our new Parish Priest, Fr Boniface Kesiena Akpoigbe MSP. This concelebrated Mass at St Catherine’s was led by Bishop Richard, assisted by priests of the Worthing Deanery and those of the Missionary Society of St Paul of Nigeria.

Others present included representatives of local churches, the Deputy Mayor, and two coachloads of parishioners from Fr Boniface’s former church in Deptford, South London, as well as many from both of Fr Boniface’s two new parishes.
During the Mass, after making his profession of faith and taking the oath of fidelity, Fr Boniface received the book of the Gospels, from which to preach the word of God to our parishes. He then received the keys to both churches, the centre of sacramental life of each parish.

At the end of Mass Fr Boniface was led to the front of the church by his previous parishioners in a Nigerian dance and handed over to us. This “offertory procession” included donations for the party afterwards and a collection for Fr Boniface.

The celebration continued in the Parish Centre, with his friends from Deptford supplementing our refreshments with an excellent West African curry.
