St Joseph’s and St Catherine’s Christmas Market Trip
to the Weald and Downland Museum
St Joseph’s of Rustington teamed up with their sister church St Catherine’s of Littlehampton and took an outing together to the wonderful Christmas Market, held for 3 days only, at the Weald and Downland Museum in Singleton, Chichester, West Sussex.
The trip was organised by our parish Secretaries Denise Mitchell (Secretary, of St Joseph’s Rustington) and Sue Pegrum (Secretary, of St. Catherine’s Littlehampton).
The trip to the Christmas Market was an outing for St Joseph’s and St Catherine’s Parishioners to be together and get to know each other and make friends with their Sister Church.
At the Weald and Downland there was a chance to explore all the 150 stalls of the Christmas Market, which included a huge spectrum of arts and crafts and unique handcrafted creations.
There was a lovely shop and a great opportunity to see the Court Barn from Lee-on-Solent’s famous Repair shop, which is filmed on location at the Museum and the program, is aired on BBC 1 daily and the Famous Host Jay Blades was there too, signing Autographs.
There was also a great opportunity to view the 17th century working Lurgashall watermill.
Plus other great historic outbuildings, such as workers cottages, farmhouses, a range of different named barns, stables and cattle sheds from across Sussex, there was a Wagon Shed from Wiston, a Market Hall from Titchfield to view, an Upper Hall from Crawley which is another Tudor Building, a building from Lavant, a smithy, and a replica of the Anglo-Saxon Hall House and also the Edwardian Tin Church from South Wonston to see and a school from West Wittering. There was much to view and explore and there is still plenty to discover and see on the Weald and Downland’s website.
There was also the Tudor Kitchen and there was tasting samples taking place of freshly baked homemade bread, baked on site and a chance to have lunch and a cuppa with fellow parishioners at the waterside café.
The trip was a great success and on behalf of all parishioners who attended, everyone would like to thank our parish secretaries Denise and Sue for organising the outing and for providing a thoroughly enjoyable trip for all.
